Ditigal Thermometer… How does it work?

I bought a acurite digital thermometer. It says it is an outdoor/indoor thermometer. I am going to place it inside. It comes with a 10′ weather resistant submersible probe. Where do I put this probe… do I let it hang down? Put in near a window and place the probe outside? Do I place it in a place near the outdoors, but not outdoors, like near the door? It didnt’ come with directions and I am not sure how it works.. any answers will be appreciated… 10 points to the person who can tell me what to do with this crazy cord hanging off of it (the little probe is attached to the end of the cord).

It is a simple device. A variable electronic resister, called a thermistor, is used and is on the end of the cord. The resister varies it’s resistance value depending on temperature. The probe must be placed in the area (outside) where you want the temperature. There is a second one in the unit itself and will show the inside temperature.
