Hazard Alert Radio

Do you have a weather/hazard alert radio?
Tornados caused damage, injuries, and death last night in several US communities. On Sat. January 4, a levee broke at 4:00 am and flooded a small town in Nevada. If a similar emergency happened in your community while you were asleep, how would you know? Do you have a Weather/Hazard Alert radio?
The US National Weather Service broadcasts alerts and devices with alarms are available. I’d love to know how other countries address alerting their citizens.
We have had our Alert Radio since 1998, when 43 people were killed by tornados that came through just before 2:00 am

Yes, we have one and it really works. Needed one because my husband and I are on the CERT team. CERT is short for Community Emegency Response Team.
The alarm does alert us, when there is even a storm in the next county and when it will be in our county.

Midland WR-100 Weather Alert All-Hazard Weather Radio & HH50 Pocket Weather Alert Radio Bundle $45.99 HH50 Pocket Weather Alert Radio The Midland HH50 Pocket Weather Alert Radio is the ultimate in straight-forward, simple access to emergency information. Skillfully constructed with the finest components, the Midland HH50 is built with all solid-state circuitry mounted on a rugged, printed circuit board to provide you with reliable and trouble-free performance for years to come. The pocket-sized Midland HH50 radio broadcasts all hazards alert weather brought to you by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), for around-the-clock severe weather information. For added safety, this unit has an automatic alert system that turns it on in event of dangerous weather or civil emergencies, so you don’t miss anything crucial. The HH50 features a weather alert test button that allows you to confirm the weather alert function on the radio is working properly at all times, even without any live broadcasts. Midland’s HH50 radio is constructed to be water resistant, so it can be used in most any environment, and has a six-inch telescoping antenna that provides crystal-clear reception from virtually anywhere. This radio includes an automatic scan function so that as soon as it is turned on, it searches out and locates the strongest weather broadcasts currently available. Durable and compact, this radio runs on three AAA batteries, and is backed by a manufacturer’s three-year warranty. WR-100B Weather Alert All-Hazard Weather Radio Stay up to date on all the latest weather, hazard, and civil emergency information with the Midland WR-100B monitor. Capable of receiving seven National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association (NOAA) channels–each of which receives emergency advisories on tornadoes, floods, severe thunderstorms, civil danger warnings, and more–the WR-100B is a must for people who live in high-risk weather areas, such as the Southeast or Midwest. Plus, the seven NOAA channels offer coverage for roughly 93 percent of the U.S., so most people are well covered regardless of where they live. Another valuable function is the monitor’s Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) reception. SAME allows users to program the radio to sound an alert only when weather and other emergencies threaten a selected county or counties. The technology eliminates all alerts from other areas, so users won’t have to perk up their ears each time the alert sounds only to find the emergency is actually 100 miles up the highway. In addition, the WR-100B’s memory system accepts up to 25 counties, so you can monitor a broad swatch of counties at once or restrict it to one. Should an alert occur, users have a choice of three warning systems: a 90 dB siren, a voice alert, or a flashing red LED light. The siren is the best option for people with larger homes or who aren’t always near the monitor, while the latter two options work well for smaller homes. Additional features include a clock with an alarm and a snoo |
